For Immediate Release For More Information, Contact: Bryan Rudnick, Media Relations Coordinator at 561-499-3201 JAACD SLAMS ANTI-DEFAMATION LEAGUE FOR ATTACK ON FALWELL Jews Against Anti-Christian Defamation - a national group organized to respond to anti-Christian prejudice - says the ADL’s latest attack on Jerry Falwell is completely predictable and clearly wrong-headed. On the ADL website, National Director Abraham Foxman goes ballistic over an "I Vote Christian" bumper sticker produced by Falwell’s organization. According to the ADL head, urging Christians to vote for candidates who share their values is "directly at odds with the American ideal and should be rejected." Falwell explained that he wasn’t telling evangelicals not to vote for non-Christians, but to support those candidates who uphold Judeo-Christian values. Said JAACD Chairman Don Feder: "It is entirely appropriate for Dr. Falwell to urge his supporters to base their votes on the moral heritage of Western Civilization. If I knew nothing more about two candidates than that one was an authentic Christian (i.e., embraced a Biblical worldview), and the other was a devout secularist - I’d vote for the Christian candidate." Foxman further maintains that, "Understanding the danger of combining religion and politics, our founding fathers wisely created a political system based on individual merit and religious inclusiveness." Feder responded: "This is a revisionist reading of American history. The Founding Fathers believed this republic was founded on Godly values - and, indeed, that it could not long endure without them. Separation of church and state (so-called) is a myth invented by the left to secularize America." "The ADL - which is another liberal front group - wants to go a step further. Instead of just separating church and state, it wants to take religious values out of politics entirely," Feder observed. Jews Against Anti-Christian Defamation hopes Dr. Falwell sticks to his guns. Said Feder, "If feminists can have an ‘I vote pro-choice’ bumper-sticker on their Volvos, I don’t see why Christian conservatives can’t proclaim their intention to vote for candidates who share their agenda." |
