GROVE CITY, Pa. - Syndicated columnist and political analyst Mona Charen will kick off the Grove City College Visiting Scholar Lecture Series at 7 p.m. Nov. 3 in Sticht Lecture Hall of the Hall of Arts and Letters on the Grove City College campus.

Her topic, "Useful Idiots: Then and Now," is fashioned after her 2003 best-selling book.

Charen, who lives in the Washington, D.C., area, received her undergraduate degree at Barnard College, Columbia University, and also holds a degree in law from George Washington University. She began her career at National Review magazine where she served as editorial assistant.

In 1986, Charen left the White House to join the presidential quest of then-Congressman Jack Kemp as a speechwriter. She launched her syndicated column in 1987 and it has become one of the fastest-growing columns in the industry. It is featured in more than 200 papers, including the Boston Globe, Baltimore Sun, St. Louis Post-Dispatch, Atlanta Journal and Constitution and the Washington Times.

Charen spent six years as a regular commentator on CNN's "Capital Gang" and has served as a judge for the Pulitzer Prizes. She is the author of the 2003 bestseller "Useful Idiots: How Liberals Got it Wrong in the Cold War and Still Blame America First." Also a frequent guest on television and radio public affairs programs, Charen is married with three children.

President of the Hudson Institute Herbert London will continue the Visiting Scholar Lecture Series with his talk, "A Direction for Higher Education," at 7 p.m. Jan. 27, 2004, in the Sticht Lecture Hall of the Hall of Arts and Letters.
