- Last Austrian to be enrolled for rabbinic studies at the Jewish Theological Institute of Vienna. Following the Nazi invasion of Austria in 1938, continued studies in the United States

Communal-Interfaith Activities:
Led the delegation of the Central Conference of American Rabbis to Toledo, Spain for the reconciliation meeting with Cardinal Martin in observance of the 500th Anniversary of the Expulsion of Jews from Spain (March 1992)
Developed religious dialogue with Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Washington, DC and with Evangelical Christian leaders
Initiated a Muslin-Jewish dialogue with Imam Wallace D. Muhammad of the World Community of Islam in the West (1978)
Preached at the White House in 1978
Represented the Jewish Faith at the Washington National Cathedral Memorial Service following Sept. 11, 2001
